Mental Health Awareness Month⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ I have been ~*publicly depressed*~ for some years now. Anxiety is something that impacts my life almost every day — and is now much easier to mention online and have people know what you’re talking about! To an extent… awareness campaigns work.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ This year for #MHAM I’d like to use my digital home (hello, you’re in it) to share stories from people who live with mental health conditions that don’t get the airtime that illnesses like depression and anxiety do. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ This is not to downplay depression or anxiety - trust me - but we cannot deny that the level of awareness for those illnesses is peaking. It’s an ‘awareness’ month, and there are others that might need the space more. (We also need a lot more than awareness for those and all kinds of mental illnesses but that is another discussion.) Schizophrenia. BPD. OCD. We might hear these names every now and then but how often do you hear from someone with that illness? Do you know what it actually means for a person? ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ If you live with a mental health condition that you feel is misunderstood or simply not mentioned at all and you’d like to have your voice shared, you can email me [email protected] and I’ll post various people’s each week this month. (Make sure to let me know if you’d prefer to be anonymous/how you’d like to be named and feel free to include a picture if you’d like, but completely non-essential.)⁣ ⁣ 📸 by @georgia_furness
